New Lynn house fire death referred to coroner after investigation

A man’s death after a house fire in New Lynn is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the coroner.

A police spokesperson said a scene examination was completed at the Kohekohe St home yesterday.

A post-mortem examination was also carried out.

“Police will continue to make inquiries into the man’s death on behalf of the coroner,” the spokesperson said.

Assistant area commander Waitematā District Katie Pocock said Fire and Emergency responded to multiple 111 calls just after 1.30pm on December 8.

“Crews transmitted a second alarm. The fire was contained quickly, and firefighters are working with police.

“Crews from Glen Eden, Avondale, Te Atatū and Auckland City responded.”

Hato Hone St John said it was called at 1.37pm and responded with an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
