A man ran out of an Auckland home with a towel wrapped around his head to stem bleeding after a shooting moments after a group speed away in a car, neighbours say.
Police are this morning at Thatcher St in Auckland’s upmarket Mission Bay after an overnight shooting. Multipleinvestigations are underway as police search for the group responsible.
Police were called to a Thatcher St home in Mission Bay, about 9.15pm after a report of a suspected shooting.
One person was found with a gunshot wound at the property, said Auckland City CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk.
“It appears a group of people have attended the address and an altercation has taken place before the person was injured.
“Inquiries are now underway to identify and locate those responsible.”

A Thatcher St resident told the Herald she’d heard a loud noise at the property next door, then saw three or four people run down the street, jump into a car and speed back on to Kepa Rd.
They then saw the victim come on to the street, wearing a towel around his head to stop the bleeding.
Neighbours say there have never been any problems with the family living there.
“They’re a lovely family, hard-working,” one said.
The victim’s wife appeared distraught by the shooting, they added, and spent approximately two hours at a neighbouring house being comforted.
Around one year ago, residents on Thatcher Rd and Kempthorne Cr put money into a neighbourhood fund to have two private cameras installed on the street for surveillance purposes.

Neighbours say police are now accessing the footage to comb for clues, such as the fleeing vehicle’s number plate.
According to two residents, Thatcher St is a quiet and friendly street, with crime limited to a small number of burglaries reported on nearby Kepa Rd last year.
A police officer is continuing to canvas the street, talking to neighbours and gathering statements.
Hato Hone St John took the victim to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.
This morning, police were at the property, which hosts a massage spa business.
Three police cars were parked at the address as officers probed the scene. An officer could be seen inspecting a Mitsubishi truck parked on the street outside the property.
Police are appealing for the public’s help and ask anyone with information to contact police on 105 via phone or on their website, using the reference number 260213/3375.
