Car swallowed by flames, blocks off-ramp on Auckland’s Southern Motorway

A car has caught fire and blocked an off-ramp on Auckland’s Southern Motorway, sending smoke billowing over the central city.

Police are at the scene of the incident and the off-ramp at Khyber Pass is closed to traffic.

Video supplied to the Herald shows the front of the car completely swallowed by flames.

Motorists are being warned to expect delays as Kiwis flock back to the city after a long weekend.

A car has caught fire just off Auckland's Southern Motorway, blocking the off-ramp at Khyber Pass.

Police say no one was hurt in the incident, which was reported shortly before 2pm.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) says drivers should use the Symonds St or Market Rd off-ramps instead of Khyber Pass.

Emergency services attended the scene after a car caught fire.
