Car bursts into flames in Auckland’s Newmarket

The dramatic moment a car burst into flames in an Auckland suburb and started rolling backwards down the road has been captured on video.

Fire and Emergency NZ crews responded at 8.30pm last night to reports of a car on fire in Seccombes road, Newmarket.

One video from the scene shows a car parked in a five-minute parking bay almost completely engulfed in flames before fire crews arrived.

Several onlookers can be heard reacting to the incident as it unfolds.

Another video shows the car rolling backwards down the road towards a fire truck and crew, fully engulfed in flames by that point.

The car comes to a stop as it hits the truck, with a firefighter then using a hose to douse it in water.

Fire and Emergency NZ said one crew responded and extinguished the blaze in under an hour.
