An Auckland Zoo giraffe was loaded up this morning ready to move to Wellington, a 12-hour journey down the North Island.
Auckland Zoo's giraffe Zuri is on the home stretch of an incredible journey to her new home in Wellington, having just passed through Paekakariki on the way to Porirua.
UPDATE: Zuri has now reached Wellington.
"It went by in such a flash. I was going to give the driver theold right hand indicator, the truckie's hello, but it went by too fast for me."
The calf's road trip will end when she joins mother and daughter giraffes Tisa and Zahara in the capital.
Earlier today, the 1-year-old peeked out the top of her crate as she was driven along State Highway 1, greeted by many excited Kiwis along the way.
Zuri's big adventure began a little late this morning, and even took a trip through Mt Eden Village and past Auckland's High Court before heading south, followed by a car full of leafy greens for hourly snack breaks.
She took a rest in Bombay, was waved to by fans in Hamilton, had a sit down in Taupo and excited the locals in Tokoroa.
After whipping along the Desert Rd, she stopped to say hello to some school kids in Waiouru, and thought Bulls was remarkable, according to the Zoo's Twitter account.
