Auckland roads set to be hectic today

Auckland people are being warned to allow extra travel time around the city today because of big sporting events.

The ITU World Series Triathlon wraps up today, with inner city roads reopening around midday.

But there is likely to be heavy traffic again later in the day with the Breakers playing at Vector Arena.

The Warriors are also playing this afternoon at Mt Smart Stadium and the Mystics netball team play at Waitakere Trust Arena tonight.

Auckland Transport's manager of major events John Strawbridge says there is a lot happening and there may be delays.

"If you don't need to go into the area where the vent is on, don't go there.

"But if you want to go and have a look and enjoy it then work out how you're going to get in there, your route in and out, and just plan your experience.''
