Auckland road closed near Westgate shopping mall due to nitric acid chemical spill

A large chemical spill has forced the closure of a road near Auckland's Westgate shopping mall.

Fire and Emergency crews were called to Maki St in Massey just after 5pm on Monday.

A spokesman said on arrival they found two 20-litre drums of nitric acid spilled across the road.

Crews are still on the scene and cordons are in place.
