Auckland police chase ends in arrests at LynnMall shopping centre

A police chase across Auckland finished with a runaway pair being arrested at LynnMall shopping centre in New Lynn.

Two people are in custody after an incident that started in Māngere Bridge, where police say they were called to a family harm incident on Woodward Ave about 10.50am.

Inspector Kelly Joyce said police were told both parties involved were inside a vehicle.

When police arrived, a patrol vehicle was allegedly hit by the offending car as it was driven off at speed.

“A short pursuit was initiated until the Police Air Support Unit was overhead and able to provide commentary.”

Inspector Joyce alleged the car drove in a dangerous manner through the city and two separate vehicles were hit during the crash but there were no injuries.

The car continued to LynnMall shopping centre, where it stopped in an underground carpark and the two people inside fled on foot.

Police chased the pair on foot and were quickly taken into custody.

Inquiries are ongoing by police.
