Auckland man and woman arrested as suspected stolen car flees police, hits other cars

A 35-year-old man and 29-year-old woman have been arrested.

A man and woman have been arrested after fleeing police in a suspected stolen vehicle before crashing into two other cars.

The pair allegedly drove through a red light in New Lynn, where they hit the other cars, with a witness saying the “dangerous” driving could “have easily ended in something far worse“.

Police said they saw the suspected stolen car just before 8pm on Blockhouse Bay Rd, heading towards New Lynn.

They tracked it using the police’s Eagle helicopter before “spikes were deployed”.

It was then that the car crashed into the other vehicles.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man and 29-year-old woman.

Police said there were no injuries, but St John ambulance said its team “transported one person in a moderate condition to Waitakere Hospital”.

A witness said he was driving along Mt Roskill’s Dominion Rd with his wife when the blue car sped past them on the inside lane.

“It then crossed over to the wrong side of the road and raced through a roundabout,” he said.

“No indicators, no regard, very dangerous driver.”

The car disappeared before they could film but they noticed the Eagle helicopter monitoring and the police cars coming “not far behind”.

“The speed he was going could have easily ended in something far worse.”
