As of this afternoon, the Trade Me auction had been viewed more than 3500 times and had clocked up a top bid of $470.20.
"All of the proceeds of this auction will go towards buying desperately needed new playground equipment, setting up bicycle and scooter stands, re-fencing and creating safer areas for playing," the kindergarten said on the auction.
Trade Me spokesman Logan Mudge said the site would not charge any success fees for the auction.
"We see hundreds of charity auctions each year, it's great to be able to help some worthy causes raise money.
"The auctions that do really well are ones that offer something unique, which obviously the chance to explore a tunnel is," Mr Mudge said.
"It's awesome that Waterview Connection is teaming up with the kindy to raise some money. It's cool that the kindergarten is doing something so interesting and entrepreneurial to interest people."
The auction was due to close just before 4pm on Monday, September 14.
The Waterview Connection project involves construction of twin tunnels and an interchange to link the Southwestern and Northwestern Motorways.
It will complete Auckland's Western Ring Route, a 47-kilometre-long motorway between Albany on the North Shore and Manukau in the south.
The completed motorway will give drivers a second motorway choice to the Southern and Northern Motorways (SH1) through central Auckland.
The project is planned to open to traffic in early 2017.
