Auckland boy, 14, drowns at sea

A 14-year-old Auckland boy has drowned at a dangerous Northland beach.
Police were called after two boys entered the water just after 4pm at Maungonui Bluff, Ripiro Beach, and were taken out to sea in a rip.
One of the youths was saved by onlookers however the other was sucked
further out.
Coastguard and Air search units were deployed. The boy was subsequently located at about 5:34pm and had died.
Sergeant Dean Plowman of Dargaville police said that the drowning had been referred to the coroner.
