Margaret Young, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited acting director for the gallery, said a leaking pipe had been found on the second floor of the gallery.
Three Pride-related events which were scheduled to take place today have been postponed.
The gallery is also hosting a major exhibition by Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, Olafur Eliasson: Your Curious Journey. Ticket holders for the exhibition could reschedule their visit or receive a refund.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you back soon,” the gallery said.
The gallery had a modern $121 million redevelopment which was completed in 2011, and is currently replacing the roof of the 135 year-old heritage building at a cost of around $12m. The building issue was unrelated to that renovation work, Young said.
