Auckland is a dangerous place to be an animal, with up to 100 severe attacks on animals in the city every year.
The SPCA is looking for a new home for the latest victim, a three-month-old German Shepherd called Evie.
SPCA chief Bob Kerridge said the pup was recovering well from surgery
after being kicked, punched and beaten with a piece of furniture.
He said any attack on an animal is a serious matter, but what happened to Evie was particularly bad.
Mr Kerridge said the organisation's focus is now on finding Evie a loving new home.
