Recently Hamish Keith had a letter published in the Herald on the poor state of Franklin Rd's footpaths. He, of course, has reason to bring this matter to the public and Auckland Council's attention; he lives in that street. But so do many hundreds of people, of which I am one, who walk the street daily. The footpaths are long overdue for an upgrade. Currently the footpaths are very colourful with the many different paints on the pavement due to the high speed broadband installation. Once this work is completed can we expect the surface of the footpaths to be upgraded? John Mead, Freemans Bay.
Auckland Transport's website (aucklandtransport.govt.nz) has a footpath upgrade schedule in the drop-down tab for Active Travel. It gives a list of streets where residents might expect work to be done on their footpaths in the next three months. Franklin Rd is not currently on that list, but it is worth keeping an eye on the list for further projects.
I regularly use the train to the city from Orakei Station. However, this does not come without frustration. Unless you get to the carpark by 8am you are unlikely to get a space. I usually need to use the carpark after this time. It is not clear to me whether we are able to use the carparking (or part of it) across the road at the Orakei Bay Function Centre. More often than not this carpark is almost empty day after day and I would like to know if it is available for overflow carparking, especially given that I understand that the facility is a council property. Prior to the upgrade of Orakei Rd and the rail overbridge many cars used to park at the western end of the function centre carpark. Gillian Nicholson, Orakei.
Park & Ride parking is always allocated on a first come, first served basis and there is never any guarantee that spaces will be available at any particular time of the day. The Orakei station car park has about 100 spaces that are usually full by 8am.
As regards parking at the function centre, this needs to be available for people attending functions, which can be at any time of any day. Although the function centre car park may appear empty, this does not mean it will not be required some time during the day for people attending a function.
