Asbestos assurance after New Lynn fire

Residents who live close to a New Lynn child care centre which was gutted by a fire last Saturday have been assured by Auckland health officials that asbestos residue has not spread.

The Planet Kids centre in New Lynn was gutted in a blaze on Saturday night.

A sample taken from the roof of the centre contained asbestos, but all samples taken from the surrounding area tested negative, Medical Officer of Health Denise Barnfather said.
