Artist Kingsley Baird has been awarded a residency at a World War I museum in Ypres, Belgium, the first time a New Zealander has been awarded the position.
Baird, a senior lecturer at Massey University in Wellington, led the team that created the Tomb of the Unknown Warriorin Wellington.
He said themes of memory, loss and reconciliation were central to his art.
