Police were alerted to the fighting on McVilly Rd in Homai, a suburb of Manurewa.
The fight dispersed when officers arrived. Police said there were a number of people injured and knocked unconscious, although there was nothing life-threatening.
Pyne said police were working closely with Manurewa High School regarding the incident.
"I would like to acknowledge the assistance they have been providing police and in general, how open they are to working with police to educate students on the dangers of fighting.
"The behaviour in this video is completely unacceptable but this is not an issue just for schools or police. This is a community issue.
"Parents and caregivers need to be making sure that they know where their children are outside of school hours and who they are associating with."
Manurewa High School principal Pete Jones said the school would assist police.
"We have a fantastic community in Manurewa and it is a shame that these types of events can overshadow the positive things which are happening in Counties Manukau."
