Armed police in Waiuku: Man in custody

Police attended an incident a domestic incident in Waiuku where a person reportedly made threats.

Police attended and cordons were put in place, with AOS also called to the scene as a precaution.

A person was taken into custody without incident shortly before 4pm and the cordons will soon be lifted.

Armed police earlier cordoned off Victoria Ave in Waiuku, south of Auckland.

Local resident Dorothy Smythe said police with rifles at been at the top of a driveway.

Dylan Newall said there was probably 10 to 15 police officers on the street.

"They're strictly not telling anyone what's going on, so I'm assuming it's been some sort of altercation with a weapon."

Smythe said she and her husband tried to turn right from Stonehurst Ave but a police car was across the road, so they had to turn left.
