Approval for 15-storey building in Bay of Islands

A 15-storey building has been approved for the Paihia waterfront.

The Far North District Council says what will be Northland's tallest building will not be an eyesore because it will be built against a high bluff on Marsden Rd.

It is the only location in Paihia where a high- rise could be built without blocking views or shadowing neighbours, the council said.

For that reason it was unlikely to set a planning precedent. An eight-storey proposal at Kerikeri saw residents calling for height restrictions there to be reinstated.
