Gladstone Rugby Club officials were delighted with the response to the auction which was a highlight of a fundraiser at the Gladstone sports complex last weekend.
President Fergus Rutherford said the auction went ''great guns'' and realised $8600.
The Anzac commemorative jerseys, which had been worn by the Gladstone premier division players
in their match with Marist earlier in the day, attracted spirited bidding and were sold at an average of about $300 each.
All profits from the auction will go towards paying off the $20,000 shortfall for the installation of a new lighting system at the sports complex.
Meanwhile, two Wellington referees, David Munro and Daniel Murphy, will officiate in matches at Memorial Park when club rugby matches continue in Wairarapa-Bush on Saturday. They are part of an exchange which will see Wairarapa referees Andrew Stringer and Tony Lyford controlling matches in the capital.
