Anti-cyclone brings warm summer weekend

Auckland is in for another warm summer weekend as an anti-cyclone settles over the country.

"The weekend in most areas is fine and dry," said MetService spokesman Dan Corbett.

"There's a nice anti-cyclone settling across New Zealand so it's just great for beach-goers and holiday makers. Some very pleasant weather."

There will be some "typical" morning cloud tomorrow in eastern parts of both the North and South Islands but most of New Zealand weather will be otherwise fine, he said.

A weak front passing north over Fiordland will bring some drizzle, but it will have dissipated by the time it reaches the North Island.

Auckland is expecting temperature highs of about 25 degrees over the weekend, with some patchy cloud and light southwest winds.

"Temperatures will warm up slowly but it doesn't get too hot. With the last high we were getting into the baking 30s. We won't be seeing that this time," Corbett predicted.

But not everyone will be happy with the dry conditions.

"There's probably a few farmers who are looking for a bit more moisture in the northern and eastern parts of the North Island.

"There isn't really any moisture to speak of in the next couple of days."

One or two showers in Northland early tomorrow will just be a "fly in the ointment" in what is a decent-looking day, he said.
