A woman jumped into Turanganui River in the centre of Gisborne yesterday with a 22-inch television set she allegedly snatched from The Warehouse just minutes earlier.
She was caught by police when she got out, minus the TV, police said.
Police were called shortly after 2pm yesterday when the woman walked out of the store with the TV without paying for it.
She was chased by store security as she made her way towards the river bank.
"In an attempt to evade security, she jumped into the river," said Senior Sergeant Lincoln Sycamore.
