Alleged dairy robbers strike in Hamilton - this time they're caught

A shopkeeper has been injured after being involved in a fracas with two men, one allegedly wielding a knife, during an aggravated robbery in Hamilton.

However, Waikato Senior Sergeant Simon Cherry said the worker managed to escape with just a small hand injury after the 6.50am robbery.

Cherry said men entered the store and allegedly tried to steal items.

"There was a struggle with the owner and a large knife was involved. The shopkeeper took the knife off the men and suffered a small cut to his hand."

A member of the public was able to give details of the alleged robber's vehicle to police, who were at the shop within minutes.

After a short chase, two men, aged 17 and 22, were arrested.

Cherry said it was too early know what, if anything, was taken.

However, he praised the actions of the witness who was quick to relay information accurately to police.

"We would like to thank the member of the public for helping us with that and provided great commentary at the time and really looked out for the shopkeeper."

Two men will appear in the Hamilton District Court either today or tomorrow.
