Drenched in beer, wrapped in a New Zealand flag and screaming at the top of her voice, Claire Boyens didn't look like your traditional WAG as she watched the All Whites play Italy.
"I'm not a typical WAG," said Mrs Boyens, wife of defender Andy Boyens. "I'm a good Kiwi
girl."
Since David and Victoria Beckham there has been an obsession over the "wives and girlfriends" of football players, and in particular England's players.
They are often singers, models and television personalities. But New Zealand's WAGs are a much more low-key group.
Only three travelled to South Africa - Mrs Boyens, Rory Fallon's wife Karly and Hannah Killen, who recently married striker Chris.
Mrs Boyens has been staying with other family members at a hotel about half an hour from where her husband and his teammates are.
And she said the trip was all about the football and not the usual WAG pastimes. "Shopping has not crossed my mind since I've been here."
Mrs Boyens was still recovering from the excitement of the 1-1 draw with Italy when she spoke to the Herald.
"I found out the Danish WAGs have a private box of their own to watch the games but I can't imagine anything worse," said Mrs Boyens, who holds a masters degree in urban design.
"I wouldn't want it. I was in the stand surrounded by Kiwi fans - I got drenched in beer holding my NZ flag screaming at the top of my voice."
Mrs Boyens will miss the final group match against Paraguay as she has to get back to her job in the US, where she and her husband live. But she is confident the All Whites can do well.
"I will miss the last game, tempting as it was to resign. Right now I think New Zealand can go through [to the next round] because of the way they have played and grown in confidence."
England's infamous WAGs became front page news during the last World Cup in Germany, causing a commotion with their shopping trips.
But some blamed them for being a distraction which caused the players to crash out of the tournament in the quarter-finals. Coach Fabio Capello has banned them from seeing the players in South Africa, at least until England have got through the group stage.
But they are reportedly sneaking in, with Glen Johnson's wife Laura in the crowd for the game against Algeria.
Meanwhile, Emile Heskey's partner Chantelle Tagoe visited a Cape Town orphanage this week ... wearing a $700 Coco Chanel belt and a white trouser suit.
The other famous WAGs, including Wayne Rooney's wife Colleen, Steven Gerrard's wife Alex Curran and Peter Crouch's partner Abbey Clancey are not in South Africa, but are threatening to head there to support their partners, according to English media.
