The extension of the Wellington Airport to bring it up to international standards is on the agenda at this year's New Zealand Airline Pilots' Association annual conference.
The conference, being held in the capital this week, will also discuss possession of handheld lasers, the upcoming review of the Civil Aviation
Act and proposed changes to industrial relations legislation and the rights of workers, association president Glen Kenny said.
Association technical director Stu Julian said he was pleased to hear of the recently announced proposed improvements envisaged for Wellington Airport.
"A critical element of this investment is ensuring that Wellington Airport is provided with 240m of RESA (runway end safety area) which meets internationally recognised safety standards," he said.
RESA was universally accepted worldwide as a critical safety feature at airports as it provides an area of runway for stopping should an aircraft overrun the runway.
