Air pollution levels in Rotorua cause concern

Air pollution from wood fires and car exhaust fumes has reached alarming levels in a Rotorua street.

Environment Bay of Plenty monitoring in Pererika St has shown air pollution levels have exceeded Ministry for the Environment standards 21 times in the past six years.

The scientist in charge of monitoring, Shane Iremonger, said data from the Pererika St site indicated there was more air pollution in areas with domestic open fires.
