Air New Zealand cancels Rarotonga flights

Air New Zealand has cancelled flights into cyclone-affected Rarotonga.

Cyclone Percy passed 180 miles clear of Rarotonga this morning.

A return flight destined for the island departing from Auckland this evening will not travel to the island.

Yesterday's flight was also cancelled, affecting 160 passengers.

Air New Zealand is hoping it will be able to send a 747 to the island tomorrow. A 747 is larger than the plane usually sent to the island, and it is hoped it will help clear the backlog of travellers.
