Ailing couple still waiting for lift

Takanini couple Arthur and Barbara Broome are still waiting for a new lift to end almost two weeks of enforced separation, since the removal of their old lift left her trapped upstairs in a wheelchair and him dying of cancer downstairs.

The Ministry of Health promised the lift would be installed yesterday but Mrs Broome said engineers worked on it for a short period before leaving, saying batteries needed recharging.

They are due back today.
