The trial for an actor charged with numerous sex crimes has been aborted after just two days for reasons that cannot be published.

Judge David Sharp today thanked the jury at the Auckland District Court for their service and told them it was "regrettable" the trial could not be seen through to its conclusion.

"I can't tell you the entire reasons for having to terminate the trial but it's matters that need to run their course and the trial will need to go on."

The judge told the jurors it was "nothing to do with anything you have done" or counsel had done.

The case would be heard by another jury at a later date, he said.

The actor's name suppression will continue at least until a hearing next week, when the judge will hear arguments from the prosecution and defence.

The man has denied 10 counts of indecent assault and two charges of sexual violation between 2010 and 2013 against four women.

The prosecution alleges the man approached women at group acting classes and told them they would benefit from private and secret one-on-one sessions.

It was during those classes the alleged offending occurred.

The defence says the sexual assaults never happened and the women had conspired together after one of them felt slighted because he'd ended their affair.

The trial began on Wednesday and the court heard evidence from two of the women, including one he'd had the brief extra-marital affair with.
