Sitting at the riverbank enjoying fish and chips with his partner has landed Samuel Joseph Trotman in custody.
The 28-year-old of Featherston man had been out on bail with strict conditions, while facing burglary charges including the alleged theft of more than $20,000 worth of copper wire from Wairarapa businesses.
Trotman indicated to his partner from the Masterton court dock as he awaited his fate on Thursday that he wasn't going home. He mouthed the words "I'm sorry" and "I'm going down" to the woman in the public gallery.
Trotman was subject to a daily 22-hour curfew while on bail but was exempt to attend a course at UCOL.
He was told to use the most direct route to get there from his home.
However, he was rearrested by police on Thursday eating fish and chips with his partner at the riverbank and appeared before Judge Barbara Morris, with police opposing bail.
"He'd already been warned about breaching," she said.
Duty lawyer Frank Minehan said his client was willing to be subject to a 24-hour curfew and stop attending the course so he could remain on bail.
However, Judge Morris said Trotman was clearly breaching his bail conditions and remanded him in custody to reappear on September 2.
Trotman is due to enter pleas to burglary and possession of cannabis charges on that date.
