A Wellington chartered accountant's bid to avoid conviction over a violent tiff with her ex has failed.
Sandy Dai had previously admitted an assault charge and her application for a discharge without conviction was heard in the Wellington District Court today.
But despite saying the offending was at the "minorend of the scale", Judge Paul Keller rejected Dai's bid to avoid blotting her criminal record and instead convicted and discharged her.
The judge said she failed to establish the consequences of a conviction were out of proportion to the seriousness of the offending.
The assault happened late on August 17 last year when Dai visited her ex-partner's apartment on Willis St.
The pair began arguing and Dai kicked the man, punched him and scratched his face and neck.
However, the man's victim statement to the court said he didn't support the prosecution.
Dai had since undertaken an anger management cause. Judge Keller said there had been a "number of" domestic violence incidents involving the pair last year.
The court heard it wasn't set in stone that a conviction would end Dai's career.
According to her Linkedin profile, Dai is a senior client adviser with Crowe Horwath in Lower Hutt. She had previously worked at Foodstuffs and Grant Thornton.
