Accidental shooting at East Cape

A person is believed to have suffered stomach injuries in an accidental shooting in a remote East Cape area this afternoon, police say.

Police were called at 4.33pm to a Tutamoe Road address in Tauwhareparae, about 80km north of Gisborne.

Police central communications Inspector Ken Climo said police, fire service and a helicopter were on their way to the scene.
