Wi Tamihana Pohatu hails from Te Muriwai and is regarded as a master weaver. He was taught the art by the kuia of the iwi and now, with his cousin Dreena Hawea, is himself teaching, reviving the art of raranga, weaving. Together,they established the Te Muriwai Weavers group and are on a mission to weave whāriki for the marae of Ngāi Tāmanuhiri, Rongowhakaata, and some of Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki and in the process, weave the people together as well.
