Twelve people have been injured in a bus crash in Christchurch this afternoon.
A police spokeswoman said the crash between a bus and a car occurred on the corner of Birchs Rd and Trices Rd in Prebbleton just before 3.30pm.
A witness, Lachie Hlaca, said a red four-wheel drive did not give way to the bus, which was operated by Go Bus.
The car collided with the bus and then crashed into a garage door. The bus tried to avoid the car and swerved into a hedge.
"A lot of people are in shock," he said.
Christchurch ambulance territory manager Craig Downing said there were 25 people on the bus at the time.
Five ambulances were called to the scene and transported patients to Christchurch Hospital.
One person was seriously injured, three people had moderate injuries and a further eight people had minor injuries.
A neighbour, Claire Thomason, said it was a dangerous intersection and there were crashes there about once a month.
"Every crash we've attended is because people have gone through the stop sign," she said.
