A new foundation-level course that aims to give students a thorough grounding in the creative and therapeutic arts will be offered for the first time in July at the Wellington Performing Arts Centre.
The course, which will run for six months, has been devised to prepare students for training in
the performing arts, but will also be a good opportunity for people who want to expand their knowledge of the therapies.
Students will practise forms such as Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, yoga, tai chi and pilates, as well as developing their creativity through learning to improvise freely in acting, dance, rhythm and voice. There will also be the opportunity to learn basic skills in mask, puppetry and creative writing in order to explore the practical side of creativity.
The centre's administrator, Sarah Spencer, says there has been a lot of interest in the new course.
"We have some very fine practitioners here in Wellington who will be teaching on the new course, and it has created a real buzz,'' she says.
