A 26-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a 26-year-old man in Taupiri early this year

A 26-year-old woman has appeared in the Hamilton District Court today charged with the murder of 26-year-old Peter Savage.

Savage died earlier this year on January 1 after an incident at a rural Taupiri property.

Emergency services were called to a Waring Rd address after reports that Savage was seriously injured, Detective Senior Sergeant Daryl Smith said.

"Upon arrival they located 26-year-old Peter Savage, who was lying outside critically injured.

"Attempts to revive Mr Savage by occupants of the address and emergency services were unsuccessful. He died at the scene," Smith said.

The woman will remain in custody until February 27.
