Visitors to Wairarapa College on Friday could be forgiven for thinking they had landed back in the seventies, as every student lent their voice to the annual house singing competition.
Hosted by head boy Taylor Houston and head girl Storm McKenna, each of the six houses had their turn onstage during the seventies-themed contest presenting a junior, senior and whole house item.
Songs ranged from Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac, Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver to Daddy Cool by Boney M.
Assistant principal Aaron Perkins says house singing was a fun and positive event.
The competition was student-led and served as an opportunity for house leaders and musically-talented students to lead their peers. Students had spent weeks practising, often in their own time.
"It is a great way to finish the term. There is so much individual talent on show and the audience showed great support for all entries," Mr Perkins said.
Puketoi took the crown for the second year in a row, entertaining the audience with a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.
While the judges deliberated, the student body enjoyed a staff rendition of the Elton John number Crocodile Rock and a very humorous presentation from Year 13 musicians Peter Dew and Zach Cresswell.
