A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck 30km east of Tauranga on Tuesday night.
GeoNet recorded the quake, causing "weak shaking" at 10.47pm.
The 257km deep rumble was felt by at least 11,174 people, from as far south as Blenheim.
Police said they had had no reports of injuries after the shake.
