4.2 quake strikes near Wellington

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Upper Hutt, north of Wellington, this evening, but there have been no reports of damage.

The quake struck at 8.31pm at a depth of 30km within 5km of Upper Hutt and would have been widely felt in the Hutt Valley and Wellington, GNS Science said.

Wellington police central communications said there were no reports of damage.
