A 3.5-magnitude earthquake has hit near Whanganui.
GeoNet recorded the shake of "weak intensity" 35km deep and 20km south-west of Whanganui at 1.25pm.
Herald columnist Rachel Stewart, who lives just north of Whanganui felt the quake.
"It was really loud," she said.
"I was sitting on my bed looking at my
computer and I heard coming for ages. I instantly ran outside."
She said it didn't appear to have damaged anything in the house but her chimney had rattled.
