$300 fine for false 111 call

A man whose false 111 call led to an armed offenders callout involving 40 emergency services staff has been fined $300.

Fanavai Henry Masaga, 22, an apprentice plumber of Paremata, pleaded guilty in the Porirua District Court to one charge of making a false complaint about a crime.

Police prosecutor Jeff Agnew said Masaga had been drinking heavily when he called 111, saying he wanted to kill himself and had guns.
