18-month-old killed in driveway accident

A toddler has died after being hit by a vehicle in Northland.

Emergency services were called State Highway 12, Ohaeawai, at 1pm today, where an 18-month-old child had been hit by a vehicle in a driveway.

After treatment from paramedics at the scene, the child was flown to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition.

Police say the toddler has since died.

An investigation is underway and the driver of the vehicle is helping police with inquiries.

Next of kin are being advised.
