15-year-old driver at 'twice alcohol limit'

A 15-year-old girl driver stunned Napier police by blowing more than twice the legal breath alcohol limit at 7am yesterday, after her car carrying two passengers was stopped.

Senior Sergeant Sarah Stewart told Hawke's Bay Today the girl was stopped in Taradale, 8km south of Napier, and blew 400mcg per litre of breath - more than twice the 150mcg limit for youth drivers.

"It is incredible that you have so much publicity and kids are still defying what is sensible," Ms Stewart said.

"She stated that she had been at a party that night where she had consumed the alcohol."

The girl had been referred to youth aid.
