A 12-year-old boy has been evacuated from the Milford Track in Fiordland after breaking his leg.
A helicopter left Te Anau shortly before 10pm to rescue the boy who was at the Dumpling Hut in Arthur Valley with a warden.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 9pm by
a Department of Conservation employee via radio.
Earlier in the evening it was undecided whether the boy would be rescued tonight due to the weather.
Southern District Communications senior sergeant Brian Benn said rescue attempts were "much weather dependent in that area".
