11-yr-old skier flown to hospital

An 11-year-old boy who fell ill when he was skiing at Mt Ruapehu was flown to hospital.

The BayTrust Rescue helicopter was sent to pick up the boy from Whakapapa ski field about 2.30pm on Saturday, a Philips Search and Rescue spokesperson said.

He was in a comfortable condition and flown to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.

"The helicopter was used due to the time-critical nature of the condition," the spokesperson said.
