Police still have fears for the wellbeing of 11-year-old Mike Zhao-Beckenridge, who has now been missing for a week.
Mike is believed to be willingly in the company of his stepfather, John Beckenridge, 64.
Police have received one confirmed and several unconfirmed sightings of the pair since Mike disappeared onFriday last week.
A farmer contacted police to say he had seen them in remote bush in the Slope Point area in the Catlins.
Other unconfirmed sightings have been reported in the lower South Island in the past few days, and Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy said police believe they are somewhere in the region.
Mike is of solid build and Asian descent. John Beckenridge is 1.75m tall, of medium build, and is of Swedish descent.
Anyone who sees the pair should phone 111 immediately. To report information phone the Southern District Command Centre on 03 471 5002, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
