100-year-old home invasion attack victim dies

A 100-year-old woman, who was a home invasion victim in November, has died in hospital in Palmerston North.

The woman turned 100 last month.

Last November, neighbours heard her screaming as she fought an attacker in her home.

The man charged with the attack, Glen Patrick Joseph Walsh, was committed to trial facing charges of sexual assault, assault and burglary.

He is on bail awaiting his next appearance on April 9, the Manawatu Standard reported.

Detective Sergeant Gary Milligan said at this stage no further charges had been laid.

A post mortem was being carried out today.

The woman's daughter said her mother had suffered "four months of hell" following the attack.

The family had been preparing her to go to a rest home before she died on Thursday night.
