Here are the most read news stories today, upcoming events and the stories that will be talked about tomorrow.

1. Cairns denies Player X allegations

Chris Cairns has issued a statement insisting he stands by his earlier comments on the Lou Vincent scandal, and that the allegations against him are 'a complete lie'.

The former New Zealand allrounder, identified by the New Zealand Herald today as the player being named as player X in the International Cricket Council inquiry, completely rejected the allegations against me - "and I will prove this".

"Everything I said yesterday stands," Cairns said.

2. Baby flung from mother's lap in crash dies

A baby who was unrestrained on his mother's lap when the car they were travelling in hit a bank yesterday has died.

Waikato district road policing manager Freda Grace confirmed this morning that police found the baby's car seat in the boot of the car but there was no room for it to be set up as the car was overloaded with passengers.

3. Vincent gifted Dubai trip for fixes

Lou Vincent was flown to Dubai, put up in a luxury apartment, given spending money and enjoyed a day on a superyacht after agreeing to manipulate matches in the Indian Cricket League, it is understood.

The trip was at least in part arranged by a player known as Cricketer X, sources said.

It is understood that Vincent was not paid for his "efforts" in the initial ICL, but the trip to Dubai was offered as a sort of "sweetener" to encourage future involvement.

4. 'Jihad' threat to mosque security

A mosque in Auckland has been shut down indefinitely following violent attacks and the declaration of jihad, or holy war, against private security staff hired to guard the premises.

Bill Frost, who leads the Global Security Intelligence team at the Avondale Islamic Centre, was assaulted twice on Sunday and said he feared for his life and the safety of his family after one worshipper threatened him with jihad.

5. Pensioners take on developers

A handful of Auckland pensioners have stopped developers in their tracks - but up to 4000 other state tenants are threatened with upheaval in the city's drive to solve a housing crisis.

Housing New Zealand pensioners in inner-city Freemans Bay have joined their neighbours in surrounding heritage houses, their local board and MPs to stop their 42 pensioner units being designated a "special housing area" for fast-track redevelopment.

6. Woman dies in jandal driving accident

A woman has died after being struck by a reversing car whose driver wedged her jandal between the brake and accelerator, police say.

The 53-year-old woman was struck in Whangarei's Rurumoki St, near Mair Park, about 3.30pm on Sunday as she walked on the street.

She was taken to Whangarei Hospital by ambulance but could not be saved.

7. 'You are such a coward of a man'

Nathan Albert died alone on the side of an Auckland road during the early hours of New Year's Day 2013, bleeding to death from a stab wound to his upper body.

The 27-year-old father of young children was fatally wounded by south Auckland Maori warden Peter Shaun Jonathon Job, 40, who was today jailed for life for the murder.

"Peter Job, you are such a coward of a man," said Mr Albert's father James Albert.

Kim Dotcom says he was 'irritated' when John Banks asked him to split a $50,000 donation to his failed 2010 Auckland mayoralty so it wouldn't have to be declared, a court has heard.

Mr Dotcom told the High Court at Auckland today Banks and his wife visited his Coatesville mansion in June 2010, where Mr Dotcom offered to donate to his mayoral campaign.

Banks, the Act Party's sole MP, is defending a charge of filing a false electoral return from 2010 where he allegedly knowingly received political donations from Mr Dotcom and SkyCity that were recorded as anonymous.

9. Kiwi gives evidence at Rolf Harris' trial

A New Zealander has told a British court Rolf Harris was a 'disgusting, vile' man who assaulted her when she was a teenager in 1970.

Harris is charged with indecently assaulting four girls in the UK between 1968 and 1986. The 84-year-old denies the charges.

When the Kiwi found out in 2013 the artist and singer been arrested in the UK she exclaimed "they finally got the bastard".
