Italy's Valentino Rossi swept from the third row of the grid to win the British 500cc motorcycling Grand Prix yesterday. Compatriot Max Biaggi, who started on pole, was second on a Yamaha with Brazilian Alex Barros third on a Honda.
Championship leader Rossi crashed his Honda heavily in qualifying and was 11th on the grid. He has won five of the eight races this season and is 26 points ahead of Biaggi in the standings at the halfway mark.
