Police taking second look at incidents for possible terrorism

New Zealand police are revisiting incidents as they step up security measures to counter terrorism.

The operation aims to ensure that what were seemingly insignificant matters at the time were exactly that, and not linked to terrorism.

Commissioner Rob Robinson announced the operation at an annual Police Association conference in Wellington.

"All those seemingly innocuous incidents or offences around the country need to be looked at as part of the big picture," said Mr Robinson.

Operation Level - run from the commissioner's office - will analyse potential threats to New Zealand and act as a national coordination point for information.
